Kokoda Pool

Greens ask for funds to be directed to supporting Kokoda Pool instead of wasted on V8 supercars.

Greens candidate for Mundingburra, Jenny Brown adds her voice to calls to upgrade and preserve Kokoda Pool as a community aquatic facility and fitting memorial to the soldiers who fought and died on the Kokoda Track.  “Many community groups have been disadvantaged by the closure of the pool and it is outrageous that our State Government neglects to provide the $5.8 million funding for this facility, which allows year round physical  activity for the community, yet spends millions on promoting V8 supercar racing”

Ms Brown and The Greens believe that physical activity is important for the health of our community and that the money currently being spent on our V8 race track, would have provided more lasting benefit to the community had it been spent on leisure facilities, such as Kokoda Pool, which could have been enjoyed by community members all year round not just for a few days.

Ms Brown is well aware of the large number of community groups, which previously used this pool. In the past she worked there as a water aerobics instructor and knows that many local children, including one of her own sons, attended learn to swim classes at the pool.

At the last council election, all the mayoral candidates, including Greens Jenny Stirling, promised funding for a refurbishment of Kokoda Pool, including aquatic park and heating.  “Now we ask the State Government to support the people of Mundingburrra and their need for an aquatic leisure centre” said Ms Brown.
